napoli azzurro

Azure. The color of the sky on a sunny day. The color of the sea. The color of Neapolitan streets. It heals and calms down hot character of citizens, the chaos and complete bedlam. Napoli is a city of contrasts. The historical buildings, monuments, sculptures, classical pieces of art and impressive traditions are situated next to heaps of rubbish and plastic. Very modern underground, one of the most beautiful metro lines in the world, and a few meters above, there are rusty old buildings. Even though, the city is considered to be the most dangerous place in Italy, people are joyful, helpful, kind, fair and honest. When we paid a bit to much, they run to us with change and the bus driver gave us back the money for our ticket because we bought one more for the child, which was not necessary. And of course, the food. We always go to Italy for scents and tastes. The morning cappuccino is so delicious only here and the scents of sfogliatelle napoletane hypnotizes and leads towards the nearest baker's stand. Pizza. That's separate topic. We learned how to make this real Neapolitan pizza from the Italian chef. It was most delicious experience in our lives. Pizza Montanara, a small bun fried on deep oil, soft and delicate, so much different from Pizza Margherita, even though made with the same ingredients, became our new favorite.
The part of the city, that we liked the most was Quartieri Spagnoli, with laundry hanging from balconies, fresh fish and frutti di mare sold on stalls. The best clams we had right here, in Pescheria Azzura. The time has stopped here. Technology used most often is so called basket - which is a plastic blue bucket, hanging from balconies on the rope and used for contacting people downstairs, family, friends or sellers. It is a popular mean of communication and way to exchange variety of items, with no need to go downstairs. Besides baskets, an iconic element of every family is a shrine, that's why, each street has at least a dozen of them. Holy figures and pictures with Christmas lights and flowers are here a must. Next to them, kids ride scooters, neighbors do pedicure in their windows and elder men play chess in the streets. A magical micro-world of its own.

As we photograph weddings as our primary job, event when on holidays we spot these situations more carefully and are always interested in such ceremonies in different countries and styles. Shooting a wedding in Sorrento would be a great adventure and a lot of fun, so we can't wait to do it.
