Christmas Kopenhagen this year was quite different than usual. The coffee and smørrebrød only to take away, the lovely architecture available only from the inside, but still every trip there makes us happy and joyful. The beautiful buildings, craft, smiling faces, the cinnamon scent at the streets.
One of our favorite places to stroll is Nyhavn, the street and canal in the center of Copenhagen, with characteristic colorful houses. But what we like the most, are the backyards of these buildings, nooks, and crannies, small shops and coffee stand with Christmas cookies, hidden out of the main street. Places perfect for a photoshoot with family, couples, or friends. And even though we come here a few times a year, we always find someplace new and something inspiring.
This year, we had planned to visit also interesting museums, galleries, Tivoli gardens, but unfortunately, just right after our arrival, everything got closed so we were only able to walk around in the fresh air. That is why we thought of the Copenhill. It is the biggest, mam made mountain in Denmark, and its great project has got numerous design awards, like Design that Educates Awards 2020. It is the most up-to-date and cleanest power plant, which also produces more clean water than it uses. At the same time, the building constitutes a part of urban infrastructure with an open the whole year ski slope, jogging paths, outdoor gym, the highest in the world climbing wall, a lot of green space for the citizens, and a center for ecological education.
Designers from the BIG design studio, responsible for the project, claim that public buildings do not have to be dull and ugly, and apart from their basic functions, they may also fulfill social roles and be aesthetic. They proved it in this project, which is absolutely perfect, beautiful, eye-catching, ecological, practical, and multi-functional. Such projects for sure, give hope for a better future, naturally enough, Copenhagen plans to be carbon neutral by 2025 as the first capital in the world. Definitely, Copenhill is now one of our favorite places and we will come here again for a photoshoot or just skiing.
